The Aria approach

A premium treatment should begin with judgement, not simply with access to a device.

Good BBL treatment starts with understanding what you are actually treating. Pigmentation, redness and sun-related change can look similar while requiring different approaches.
What BBL may help with

Skin concerns,
not just a device.

BBL uses selected bands of light to address specific pigment and vascular targets. Suitability depends on the nature of the concern, skin type, recent sun exposure and other individual factors.

01

Pigmentation & sun damage

Selected brown pigmentation, freckles, age spots and visible changes associated with accumulated sun exposure.

02

Redness & visible vessels

Selected facial redness, diffuse vascular change and small visible vessels may be appropriate for BBL treatment.

03

Uneven skin tone

For suitable skin, BBL may form part of a plan to improve the appearance of mixed visible pigment and redness.

Examples of individual outcomes

A clearer picture.

These photographs show individual outcomes after treatment. They do not represent a typical or guaranteed result. Treatment response varies according to the concern being treated, skin type, treatment parameters and other individual factors.

Before-and-after photographs represent individual outcomes only and are not a guarantee of a particular result. They should not be taken as a prediction of the result another person will achieve.

What to expect

A calm, straightforward treatment journey.

We want you to understand what is being treated, what the treatment feels like, what may happen afterwards and what your next step should be.

01

Assessment

Your concern, skin type, sun exposure, relevant history and treatment suitability are reviewed. Jenna also uses the OBSERV 520x skin imaging system during consultation to help visualise and clarify surface and subsurface skin features relevant to treatment planning.

02

Treatment plan

Area, expected treatment course, parameters, pricing and aftercare are discussed before proceeding.

03

BBL treatment

Controlled pulses of light are delivered with cooling at the skin surface. Sensation varies between individuals.

04

Aftercare

Temporary warmth, redness, swelling or darkening of treated pigment can occur. Other adverse effects are possible and will be discussed during assessment. Sun protection is important.

Recovery & pigment response

Treated pigment may temporarily look darker.

Following treatment of selected brown pigment, treated areas can temporarily darken or become more noticeable as the skin responds. Redness, warmth and swelling can also occur. The degree and duration of these effects vary between individuals.

  • Expect temporary warmth or redness in some patients
  • Treated pigment may temporarily darken
  • Do not pick or scrub treated pigment
  • Daily broad-spectrum sun protection is important
  • Your therapist will provide individual aftercare advice

Not every brown spot, patch of redness or skin concern should automatically be treated with light. If BBL is not appropriate for the concern being assessed, we will discuss alternative next steps with you.

Before you book

Common questions.

Clear information should make it easier to decide whether a consultation is the right next step.

Is BBL a laser?

No. BBL stands for BroadBand Light. It is an intense pulsed light technology that uses selected bands of light according to the target being treated.

What does BBL feel like?

Sensation varies. People commonly describe brief warmth or a snapping sensation with individual pulses. The BBL handpiece includes active cooling at the treatment surface.

Is there downtime?

Some people continue normal daily activities after treatment, although temporary redness, warmth, swelling or darkening of treated pigmentation can occur. Recovery varies with the treatment area, settings and individual, and other adverse effects are possible.

How many treatments will I need?

There is no single number that is appropriate for everyone. The recommendation depends on the concern, the starting skin condition and your treatment goals.

Can BBL treat pigmentation?

BBL can be used for selected pigment concerns. Pigmented lesions should be assessed first because not every lesion is appropriate for light treatment.

Can it help redness?

Selected vascular concerns and visible redness may be suitable for BBL. The pattern and cause of the redness are considered during assessment.

Who performs BBL at Aria?

BBL skin treatments at Aria are led by Jenna, Dermal Therapist, following consultation, OBSERV 520x skin imaging where appropriate, and individual treatment planning.

What should I do before treatment?

Avoiding significant sun exposure and tanning is important. At consultation, tell your therapist about medications, skin products, recent procedures and any relevant medical history so your suitability can be assessed.
